Research Summary

This study quantitatively analyzes the spatial structures and circulation systems of Seoul, Gongdeok, and Wangsimni Stations using Space Syntax, covering the areas from ground-level entrances to the lowest platforms. Interfloor connections were defined as unit spaces to examine the spatial depth and connectivity of multilevel underground stations. Station configurations and transfer-passage layouts significantly influenced the overall spatial network.

Concourses, ticket gates, and routes connecting to platforms showed high integration, indicating the potential for passenger concentration during emergencies. In contrast, remote entrances and the ends of the lowest platforms were identified as vulnerable areas because of their greater spatial depth and limited connectivity to vertical circulation routes.
