Research Summary
This study examines the reuse of obsolete industrial sites and regeneration planning around Paris Gare du Nord in the 10th arrondissement, a historic district where multiple transport systems converge. The northern area once contained numerous industrial facilities but faced increasing pressure for regeneration because of physical deterioration and urban decline. Consistent with French regeneration policies favoring the reuse of existing urban fabric, these conditions led to the Gare du Nord interchange project.
By analyzing the station’s capacity constraints and the restructuring of its northern surroundings, the study shows how locational and transport advantages, combined with the adaptive reuse of industrial land, can restore old-city functions and promote broader urban development.
